LYNNWOOD -- It came down to the wire, but Edmonds women's hoops secured a win on sophomore night. The pesky Rangers never surrendered, and tied the game up at 65-65 with 1:48 left, but the Tritons closed the affair on an 8-2 run. Hitting from the charity stripe down the stretch was important, as Maggie Salas and Dreanna Jackson were 4-for-4 in the final 19 seconds. The defense forced an absurd 20 steals in the game -- Kyana Brucelas, Salas, and Jackson were each credited with 5 in the contest. Dreanna Jackson matched her season-high of 18 points and also grabbed 8 rebounds. Jada Walters was just shy of a double-double with 19 points and 9 rebounds, and Keira Slippern poured in 10. Natalie Brown pulled in 10 rebounds and is fifth overall in the NWAC, averaging 9.6 boards per game. It wasn't the best shooting night for the Tritons (38% from the field and 23% from behind the arc), but they overcame and pulled out yet another tight victory, 73-67.
Edmonds (18-7, 12-2) rides a five-game winning streak into the NWAC Championship Tournament, which starts Saturday, March 9. Their opponent will be Pierce (12-14, 8-4), the 3-seed from the West Region. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Pasco at Columbia Basin College.
